John William Pitt Kinau (PNLPC-13-07870, original)

Hawaiian Prince John William Pitt Kīnaʻu. His name was taken from Kalanimoku, his grandfather, after WIlliam Pitt the Younger who was British Prime Minister. Although this image shows him wearing the royal order of Kamehameha I, that order was not created until 1865, six years after Kinau died. It was not awarded to him posthumously. The decoration on his chest is actually scratched into the original glass plate negative.
